"kulirrum kondu kunugghi nadakkum malayalee pennanu- periyar". mullaperiyar is a dam built in 1895 on the banks of mullayaar and periyaar.all of this river is on kerala land,but is maintained and run by the neighbor state tamilnadu,because of a bungled up contacts signed by the authorities before.it is learnt that the madras presidency which was ruled by the british,forced the travancore maharaja who was a smaller force,into signing a treaty to give water to present tamilnadu for 999 years.after signing the treaty,it is learnt that the maharaja stated that he signed the treaty by his blood,meaning,he did that out of fear from some quarters.now the madurai, ramnadu, theni areas of tamilnadu is serviced with water for irrigation from mullaperiyar dam. this dam is 116 years old now and is made on a older technology with a mix called 'sukri' which is much less durable than cement.the life of a dam built is only 60 years.i don't understand the irresponsibility of the authorities!!!

be totally cracked. Already the government
has warned, any unexpected damage to this
dam can endanger the lives of 3 million
people, and two districts can be under
water. The Central government of India
is not the least concerned with the
3 million human beings. Giving away
crores of Rs after the destruction is
simply an irresponsible political policy. Without any further delay,
this dam has to be reconstructed.

mullaperiyar- is a bungled-up treaty! the mullaperiyar treaty is so bungled-up, that the treaty that was considered in a dormant state, after the british leaving india even though we gave water to tamilnadu because of their need and basically due to water being a common commodity, that treaty was re-instituted back by re-signing again by the state governments of kerala and tamil nadu in 1970 for some reason ! now the state of kerala has more of a liability to provide tamil nadu with water no matter what it is ! see how they bungled this up ! it is understood that while tamil nadu makes 1200 crores in income from the water supplied from kerala, they pay kerala only 30 lakhs. not only that, the bib-brother attitude of tamil nadu government being insensitive to the issue is unbearable and totally unacceptable !
